What a change does to your bond

Most home loans are priced against prime, so when the repo rate moves, so does your repayment.

+R254a month if the repo rate rises 0.25 points

−R253a month if it falls 0.25 points

A standard repayment with interest worked out monthly, before insurance and fees. Your bank’s figure may differ slightly.

The Reserve Bank’s next decisions

The Monetary Policy Committee announces its decision at the end of each meeting, usually mid-afternoon; a change takes effect the next day or so.

What these rates are

The repo rate is the rate at which the South African Reserve Bank lends to banks. Its Monetary Policy Committee sets it to keep inflation near target.

Prime is the rate banks use as the base for home loans, vehicle finance and overdrafts. By convention it’s the repo rate plus 3.5 percentage points, so it moves with every decision.

ZARONIA, the South African Rand Overnight Index Average, is the rate on overnight deposits between banks, published every business day (7.105% on 29 October 2026). It’s replacing JIBAR as the reference for loans and derivatives.

SABOR, the South African Benchmark Overnight Rate, was the earlier overnight reference (7.221% on 28 October 2026).

Every figure is from the South African Reserve Bank’s published time series, checked each business day against its headline rates. This page shows the latest release of our reference rates dataset.
